ARLINGTON County faces the looming loss of thousands of military and defense jobs. Ideas are needed on how to refashion Crystal City. Rising housing costs, traffic and taxes make it harder to live in the close-in suburb. One seat on the five-member County Board, charged with trying to solve these challenges, is open on Nov. 7; incumbent Chris Zimmerman (D), the chairman, should be reelected.

The Arlington Professional Firefighters' and Paramedics' Association (APFPA) enthusiastically endorse Chris Zimmerman for the Arlington County Board this November (2006). During Chris's tenure on the County Board he has emerged as a true advocate for public safety and the Fire Department. Chris has endured a number of very challenging budget sessions in which there have been a considerable number of issues competing for a finite number of resources. Year after year, he has maintained his focus on the importance of providing the necessary resources to allow for safe and efficient services from the firefighters and paramedics that make up the Arlington County Fire Department. Without appropriate resources, we could neither retain top quality firefighters and paramedics nor could we provide the high level of services we are currently capable of providing to the citizens of Arlington County. Chris has spearheaded a number of initiatives relative to public safety which have unquestionably resulted in a safer and better Arlington County. The APFPA urges all county residents to join us in our support for Chris Zimmerman this fall. He has been there for us so that we can be there for the citizens.
